WHO OR WHAT IS THE LONG NIGHT OF SOCIAL WORK?<\/strong><\/p>\nA job in social work \u2013 not just a position or a job, no, it\u2019s meant to be a calling.<\/p>\n
But social work takes its toll on us; it preoccupies us \u2013 often before it begins and whilst we\u2019re in the thick of it, and mostly afterwards:<\/p>\n
when the last email of the day has been sent, the last crisis meeting documented, and the last team meeting finished.<\/p>\n
We come home after work, exhausted, to hear about cuts.<\/p>\n
\u2018Political\u2019 decisions whose consequences we can already foresee.<\/p>\n
We are angry.<\/strong><\/p>\nWe must stand up for ourselves, organise, and still find the time and space to exist beyond our profession \u2013 but when?<\/p>\n
WE NEED A PLACE WHERE THERE IS ROOM FOR ALL OF THIS.<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Long Night of Social Work is organised by a collective of social workers.<\/p>\n
We want to break out of isolation.<\/p>\n
To organise events where we make demands and network.<\/p>\n
To raise the profile of social work, but also to chill out, party and shout into microphones.<\/p>\n
BECAUSE WHAT WE EXPERIENCE EVERY DAY HAS TO GO SOMEWHERE \u2013 AND IT WANTS TO!<\/strong><\/p>\nFor that, we need space \u2013 space for creative engagement with uncertainty, feeling overwhelmed, hopes and visions.<\/p>\n
Space for encounters, exchange and community.<\/p>\n
Space for light-heartedness, for anger, for showing ourselves and celebrating ourselves.<\/p>\n
