ANTI COLONIAL SHORT FILM NIGHT

Wednesday, 20 October 2026 | 6.00 pm | Herman Schulz Kollektiv Café & Bar, Finowstraße 33, 10247 Berlin

Directions: Tram 16, M13 to Traveplatz | U5, S8, S41, S42, S85, Tram M10 to Frankfurter Allee

📣 Call to action: https://demo-ticker-berlin.org/?p=9782

#b2010 #AntiColonial #FilmNight

🕕 18:00. Delicious vegan dinner Algérie en Flammes (French with English subtitles) After a short summer break the Political Movie Night is back!

This time, to commemorate October as a time of indigenous, anti-colonial and anti-imperialist struggles across the world, we will show short films of two of the last century’s key struggles.

One of the first materials filmed and produced by the National Liberation Army in an effort to put an end to the independence war, the propaganda film, Algérie en Flammes optimistically shows life in the liberated maquis in the middle of Algeria’s decolonization process.

The organization of all aspects of life -from cooking to education to negotiations- behind the military struggle is shown.

Shot during the high end of the fighting, The Young Pupeteers of Vietnam It tells the story of a group of teenagers from the National Liberation Front who in the midst of the extreme destruction wrought by the the United States, decide to recycle and reuse military remains to build puppets with them.

The teenagers then travel through the newly liberated areas, bringing a sense of ephemeral albeit genuine relief in the midst of imperialistic destruction.

As per usual, we try to show struggling perspectives as told by the protagonists themselves.

This occasion is particularly special as we will be showing two short documentaries/propaganda films produced by the independence/liberation organizations (the National Liberation Army of Algeria and the National Liberation Front of Vietnam) themselves.

As always, after the screening the floor will be opened for what we hope will be a lovely talk and exchange.

Until then!
